Starlink launches in Vietnam: SpaceX starts taking orders for satellite internet starting at $43 a month

Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service founded by Elon Musk, has officially launched and begun accepting commercial orders in Vietnam.

The residential plans start at approximately VND1.13 million ($43.4) per month for speeds of up to 100 Mbps, while a higher-tier plan costs VND1.71 million ($65.7) per month for speeds exceeding 400 Mbps.

The Standard hardware kit and alternative options such as the Starlink Mini cost roughly $330 to $390 upfront. Customers can place deposits through Starlink’s website for residential service, with hardware costs starting at approximately VND8.66 million.

Corporate plans start at VND1.48 million per month.

The official rollout follows months of preparation after Starlink received local approval to operate under a controlled pilot program. The service operates under local oversight through Starlink’s local entity, Starlink Services Vietnam Co. Ltd., and is capped at 600,000 user terminals during the trial period.

While Vietnam already has an extensive and affordable fiber-optic network in urban areas, Starlink is intended to bridge connectivity gaps in remote communities, islands and maritime vessels, while also providing a high-speed backup connection for businesses.

According to SpaceX’s coverage map, Vietnam becomes the sixth Southeast Asian market where Starlink services are available, joining Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Timor-Leste.

Vietnam’s government announced in March 2025 that it would allow SpaceX to operate Starlink on a trial basis, temporarily waiving foreign ownership restrictions for the service. The trial is scheduled to run through the end of 2030, with authorities capping the number of subscribers at 600,000.

According to the Vietnamese government, four Starlink ground gateway stations have been authorized in the country.

The service is operated by SpaceX’s local unit, Starlink Services Vietnam, which was established in September 2025 with charter capital of VND30 billion ($1.1 million).
