HANGU: An explosion near the vehicle of Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations in Hangu martyred three policemen including the senior officer and injured several others on Friday, police said.
District Police Officer Khanzeb Mohmand confirmed the deaths, adding that the wounded were shifted to DHQ Hospital Hangu.
Earlier, police had said SP Zubair and several officers were injured when the blast struck close to his vehicle; the casualty toll was later revised after assessments at the hospital.
This was the second explosion reported in the day.
Earlier, according to police, an explosion occurred beside a police checkpoint in Ghulmina and was caused by explosive material planted in the area.
A room near the checkpoint was destroyed in the blast. Police said unknown individuals had planted the device.
