LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has approved the extension of the tenure of the party’s United Kingdom leadership, including UK President Ahsan Dar and Youth Wing President Khurram Butt, until September 22, 2027.

The decision was announced in an official notification issued on November 8, 2026, by Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who heads the party’s International Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis wing.

The notification extends the tenure of all existing office-bearers of the PML-N UK chapter, allowing them to continue in their positions until September 2027.

DPM Dar expressed hope that all office-bearers would continue discharging their responsibilities diligently, demonstrate unity and work for the betterment of PML-N and Pakistan.

Ahsan, a British-Pakistani businessman, was first appointed PML-N UK president in October 2024 as part of a major reorganisation approved by Nawaz. He replaced the previous leadership headed by Zubair Gull, who had led the party’s UK organisation for nearly two decades.

Ahsan, who runs a security business in Britain, had previously provided professional security arrangements for Nawaz during his extended stay in London. His role in overseeing the former prime minister’s security helped establish his position within the party’s overseas organisation.

Since becoming president, Ahsan has worked on reorganising the party’s UK chapters, expanding regional structures and mobilising supporters across Britain.

In December 2024, he organised one of PML-N UK’s largest gatherings in years, attended by nearly 1,000 supporters. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif travelled from Pakistan to attend the event as chief guest.

Khurram Butt, the PML-N UK Youth Wing president, has been involved in youth mobilisation, political campaigning and organising activities supporting the party leadership in Britain.

Butt has also been active in matters concerning the security of the Sharif family in London. He previously reported alleged threats against family members to the Metropolitan Police and campaigned against former prime minister Imran Khan’s bid to become Oxford University’s chancellor.

In a statement, PML-N UK President Ahsan thanked Nawaz and DPM Dar for their continued trust and confidence in the UK leadership.

Ahsan said: “We are deeply grateful to our leader Mian Nawaz Sharif and Senator Ishaq Dar for reposing their trust in us and extending our tenure. We remain committed to strengthening PML-N across the United Kingdom, uniting party workers and serving the Pakistani community. We will continue working with renewed dedication to promote the vision and leadership of Nawaz Sharif.”
