What does your 2024 Google search history look like? Were you endlessly Googling Arshad Nadeem like we were, or were you spending your time on more playful queries like peach iced tea? Maybe you were caught up in the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum frenzy, or perhaps you found yourself diving deep into Ishq Murshid.
Whatever you were searching for, Google has been keeping track, and we’ve got the scoop for you.
Google’s Year in Search 2024 report is out, showcasing what’s been on Pakistan’s minds this year. As expected, cricket, entertainment, food, and technology dominated our screens — and our search bars.
Sports fans were glued to their devices, with the ICC T20 World Cup and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 making waves in searches. Arshad Nadeem, the historic Olympic gold medalist, also sparked significant interest after his historic win, earning Pakistan’s first gold medal in nearly three decades.
The year was also filled with searches for popular media figures like Sana Javed, Zoya Nasir, Mukesh Ambani, and social media influencers such as Hareem Shah and Minahil Malik.
When it comes to entertainment, Pakistani dramas continued to captivate audiences, with searches for Ishq Murshid and Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum standing out. Bollywood hits like Animal, Dunki, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Stree 2 also got plenty of attention, along with the much-anticipated Mirzapur season 3 and the reality show Bigg Boss.
Beyond entertainment, food lovers were busy searching for recipes, from banana bread and creamy pasta to local treats like malpura and tawa kaleji. There was also a surge in searches for quick snacks like garlic bread and egg noodles, as well as trendy seasonal drinks like peach iced tea.
In the tech world, Pakistanis showed a strong interest in AI tools, particularly Gemini and Remaker AI. Smartphone models from Infinix, Redmi, Vivo, and Apple also dominated search queries.
In addition, “how to” searches ranged from figuring out polling stations during an election year to tips on making flowers last longer. Parenting questions, especially about teaching kids to share, also made it onto the list.
“This year’s Year in Search reveals a Pakistan that is both deeply rooted in its traditions and eagerly embracing the possibilities of the digital age. From the cricket pitch to the kitchen, the silver screen to the search bar, Pakistanis are using Google to explore their passions, connect with their culture, and shape their future. AI has been integral to reimagining what Search can do, and we’re looking forward to expanding on our capabilities to help Pakistanis discover more of the web and the world around them,” said Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan.

Google’s ‘Year in Search 2024’ data reveals an interesting contrast between the digital interests of Pakistan and India. While Pakistanis were actively searching for trends from across the border, including Indian cricket matches, Bollywood blockbusters, and popular TV shows like Bigg Boss 17, the reverse didn’t hold true for Pakistani media, culture, or sports.
The Indian entertainment industry, particularly Bollywood and cricket, has long enjoyed immense popularity in Pakistan, and this year, searches for Indian films like Animal and Dunki, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 surged. Even the highly anticipated Mirzapur season 3 kept Pakistani audiences hooked. Pakistani audiences were also curious about Indian celebrities such as Mukesh Ambani, further highlighting the strong influence of Indian pop culture and media.

On the other hand, Pakistani media, despite its growing regional presence, did not receive the same level of attention across the border. While shows like Heeramandi and Ishq Murshid captured the attention of local audiences, there was a noticeable absence of similar trending Pakistani media on Indian search lists. This indicates that while Indian pop culture is a constant source of fascination for Pakistanis, the reverse is not as prevalent, with Indian audiences largely focused on their domestic sports, entertainment, and personalities, rather than looking across the border.
