KARACHI: The export earnings of Pakistan’s freelancers surged to over $350 million during the first two months of the current financial year, The News reported, citing data by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
According to data released by the central bank, export receipts from freelancers rose to $352 million during July-August 2026, compared to $244 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2025, showing a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 44%.
The data showed that freelancers providing IT-related services earned $212 million during the two-month period, while those engaged in non-IT services generated $139 million.
Chairperson of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) Ibrahim Amin said that Pakistani freelancers are continuing to strengthen their presence on international freelancing platforms, which is reflected in the rising export receipts being brought into the country.
“Our freelancers are fast learners and quick to acquire in-demand skills, particularly in AI tools and applications,” he said.
Many freelancers are now working in teams and providing multiple services through agencies registered on international platforms, Amin added.
He appreciated the efforts of the government, private sector and non-governmental organisations in conducting IT and skills-development courses in different cities across the country to equip young people with market-oriented skills alongside their academic qualifications.
