LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder and leader Altaf Hussain’s north London home has come under attack after two masked men entered the property and attempted to force their way into the house, according to accounts provided by MQM officials and videos shared showing the two men jumping inside the house and causing damage.
Footage shows the two masked men jumped over the front gate of Hussain’s residence in the Mill Hill area of north London and causing significant damage while attempting to gain entry. The attackers damaged a front door and window as they tried to force their way further inside the property.
Hussain was inside the house at the time and was only a short distance away in his bedroom when the incident unfolded. The intruders fled after an alarm was activated, according to the party’s account.
Police were called following the incident, while MQM officials said officers attended the property and forensic inquiries were being carried out. There was no immediate indication of the identities of the two men or their motive, and the police said it has collected the forensics and were investigating.
Altaf Hussain appeared at the scene of the incident alongside around a dozen of his followers and described how the masked men attempted twice to enter his house. He said video footage showed the two masked men initially jumping into the property and leaving, before returning around 10 minutes later and causing damage. Hussain also showed a flower pot, which he said was used in an attempt to smash the window next to the main entrance. The footage shows visible cracks in the glass.
The MQM-London’s Rabta Committee strongly condemned the incident and appealed to the British authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and identify those responsible. Party leaders described the incident as a serious security threat to Hussain and called on the authorities to establish who sent the attackers and why Hussain’s home was targeted.
