Veteran Indian scriptwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar recently expressed his admiration for Pakistani singer Moazzam Ali Khan after coming across a video of his soulful performance.
The video, which quickly gained attention on social media, showcases Khan’s rendition of the popular song “Yeh Nain Darey Darey” from the 1964 movie Kohraa. Many listeners, including Akhtar, were struck by Khan’s vocal resemblance to the late legendary ghazal singer Jagjit Singh.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Akhtar praised Khan’s performance and made a heartfelt invitation. “Just now I watched a gentleman Muazzam saheb on youtube singing ‘Yeh Nain Darey Darey’. Could he please contact me. I will be thankful if he sings a few songs for us,” the 80-year-old lyricist wrote, expressing a desire to collaborate with the talented singer.
Moazzam Ali Khan, known for his captivating voice, frequently shares his singing performances on social media and has built a significant following.
With over 150,000 followers on Instagram, Khan’s social media presence reflects his growing popularity. He is also an actor, having appeared in the TV shows Meri Shehzadi and Ishq-e-Laa, as well as a voice-over artist.
His rendition of “Yeh Nayan Dare Dare” has garnered over 65,000 views on YouTube and received over 2,000 likes, further cementing his place in the hearts of music lovers. Khan’s growing subscriber base on YouTube, with 37,000 subscribers, is a testament to the appreciation his music receives.
Touched by Akhtar’s words, Moazzam Ali Khan shared a note of gratitude on his social media platforms. “Truly grateful to be appreciated by the legendary Javed Akhtar Sahab. His words have inspired generations, and to have him acknowledge my voice and song is an honour beyond words,” Khan wrote.
He also thanked Akhtar for the “encouragement,” adding that it meant the world to him.
