Book: All in it Together by Alwyn W. Turner

Following the car crash that is England’s last few years in politics? Whether it’s the Brexit referendum or party gate, the British political landscape has been tumultuous enough to give Pakistan a run for its money these last few years. In this new book by Alwyn W Turner, is an in-depth look at David Cameron, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson’s predecessors. This book spans a hundred years in British politics and takes a closer look at the Blair, Brown and Cameron years. Turner also cleverly weaves in popular culture to make it an interesting read. It sheds enough light on the 2008 crash and Iraq war to shed light on certain patterns or rather errors in British politics.

Podcast: Therapy Chat

In this fast-paced world where work and life are precariously-balanced, it is becoming increasingly common to face mental health problems. Therapy Chat focuses on how mindfulness, psychotherapy, and other alternative approaches can help one better cope in these stressful times. The episodes focus on a variety of different approaches to help deal with trauma and stress including, for instance, a deeper look at the stress-health connection or how to use holistic psychiatry to balance mind, body, and soul. This podcast has been rated 4.5/5 in the Apple store with several of its listeners describing it as “life-changing.”

Movie: Purple Hearts

This latest Netflix movie hit the streaming platform over a week ago and is already one of the most watched in Pakistan. The formula for Purple Hearts is tested and tried, perhaps even tired. Down on their luck and desperate for some extra money, singer Cassie and US Marine Luke cross each other’s paths. They agree to partake in a sham marriage for the sole purpose of availing the medical and monetary benefits given to married couples by the US military. And of course, soon after marrying, the two opposites find themselves falling for each other. What makes this one different and worthy of a watch over several others of the same plot line? The original songs performed within the movie as well as the hard-to-miss chemistry between the two leads.

TV Show: Uncoupled

Fans of Barney Stinson can now rejoice as Neil Patrick Harrison once again graces the small screen with his comedy chops. In this new series, Michael (played by Harris) is an ageing realtor jilted by his longtime love. While reeling from the shock and heartache, Michael navigates the treacherous dating scene in New York, this time older and more vulnerable. A far cry from his How I Met Your Mother role, this new character nonetheless gives Harris another chance to entertain his audience. The charming and relatable comedy is guaranteed to keep you laughing.
