Celebrating Mawra Hocane’s 30th birthday with her top five roles

From a VJ-turned-actor to a renowned international star, Mawra Hocane has come a long way in her career. While a celebrity crossing borders is not something we see too often, her beauty and talent gave her a gateway to Bollywood.

Mawra started her career as a VJ at the mere age of 13. Fame came knocking at her door and in 2012 she made her TV debut with the show Mere Huzoor. Her subpar acting skills in the serial led her to bag numerous popular dramas later, including Maryam, Kitni Girhain Baaki Hain, and Haasil. As the star celebrates her 30th birthday, here is a lowdown of some of her top performances.

1. Sammi

Mawra’s role as Sammi remains a brilliant one to this day. Her delivery of dialogues and performance mirrors the patriarchal culture of a rural area and effectively represents the trauma her character faces through the plot. She starred with Ahad Raza Mir and the drama earned multiple awards.

2. Sabaat

With a 7.4 IMBD rating, Sabaat is a critically acclaimed masterpiece that has captured the hearts of viewers due to the intriguing characters on screen and heartwarming relationships. Marwa played Anaya Aziz, a strong-willed and ambitious woman who seeks independence in her life and wants a better life for the women around her. This drama was also nominated for five categories at the 20th edition of the Lux Style Awards.

3. Aangan

A glimpse back into the 1947 Partition, Aangan set a milestone for dramas showing people the civil war’s plight on the citizens of the severed nation. Along with the harrowing details of the survivors, the drama narrates an interesting love story. Marwa displayed her true potential during her role as Aaliya, leaving no hint of criticism for the audience. Aangan was the most highly anticipated drama in 2018, and Marwa certainly excelled at fulfilling her part in it.

4. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani

A movie that reflected Marwa’s comedic side while simultaneously paving her way to the glamorous world of movies. The film was released on August 19, 2018, and grossed Rs700 million  worldwide. The movie was highly appreciated for its direction and the actor’s performance and fared well at the local box office. Marwa was a fan favourite in this and deserved good applause.

5. Sanam Teri Kasam

As a child, Mawra claimed to be a heart-throbbed fan of Ranbir Kapoor; little did she know that as an adult, she would star in a mesmerizing love story in India, edging closer into the industry to her crush. Sanam Teri Kasam is a romantic tragedy starring Harshvardhan Rane, Vijay Raaz, and Mawra Hocane and was an excellent film that received a fantastic response from people.
