Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid have announced that they will not retire before next season after winning the team’s third Super Bowl on Sunday with his team against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, The US Sun reported.
Kelce, 34, has been dating pop sensation, Taylor Swift, 34, since last year, which has sparked retirement rumours among fans as they speculate that he may ride off into the sunset with his girlfriend.
However, when asked if he would like to stay in the National Football League (NFL) next season, Kelce denied the rumours and shared that he intends to stick around.
“Hell yeah,” he said. “I want that three-peat.”
Kelce is set to be paid $12 million next season and his salary is expected to climb to $16.25 million in 2025, the final year of his contract with the Chiefs.
Additionally, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed he will not be retiring after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl LVIII, jokingly expressing his frustration at Bill Belichick for leaving the New England Patriots, as he was being constantly asked about retirement.
Reid, 65, who had been rumoured to retire, confirmed that he would return next season to help the team achieve a historic three-peat in 2024.
“I haven’t had time to think about it but yeah, sure,” Reid told reporters.
Reid then joked that he was “mad” at fellow veteran coaches Belichick and the Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll for recently leaving their jobs.
“I’m mad at Belichick and Pete because now I get asked all those questions,” Reid said.
Reid confirmed his status at a Monday post-Super Bowl press conference.
“I haven’t even thought about (retirement),” he said. “People keep asking me. I haven’t really gone there. I haven’t really thought about it.”
