Lawyer and MNA Shah Afzal Marwat made headlines this week for refusing to bow down to family pressure and take on a second wife just to have a son. With Marwat having been roundly praised on social media for his words, actor Sonya Hussyn entered the fray with her own words of commendation.

“In this cruel society we live in, I have immense respect for this man,” wrote the Saraab actor on her Instagram reel. “He understands the importance of human decency and the basic principles of relationships.”

Earlier this week, Marwat had disclosed on Nadir Hussain’s podcast that he had been under pressure from his family to marry for a second time in the hopes that he would produce a son. However, Marwat revealed that he could not put his wife through the trauma of enduring another woman in his life. “I couldn’t bring another woman into our lives just to have a child,” he had stated in the podcast. “Like everyone else, a woman has just one life. She has basically burned everything in her life just to start a new life with you.”

Reflecting on Marwat’s words, Hussyn lamented society’s weighted expectation to have a male heir. “Marrying solely to have a son is incredibly cruel,” she pointed out. However, she went on to laud Marwat’s loyalty to his wife and highlighted how his staunch dedication and family values would shield his daughters from future pain. “By making this choice, he not only did justice to his wife but also protected his daughters from a lifetime of trauma,” she penned. “I have no doubt that his daughters will make him incredibly proud one day.” Hussyn sealed her stamp of approval by rounding off her post with the words, “Respect, sir.”
