Samsung Electronics to unveil $72 billion shareholder return plan, reports say

Samsung Electronics is reportedly preparing to introduce a massive new shareholder return policy worth over 100 trillion won (approximately $72 billion), driven by record profits during the ongoing artificial intelligence chip supercycle.

According to reports from MoneyToday citing industry insiders, Samsung plans to allocate 50% of its free cash flow to investor distributions.

The package is expected to heavily feature cash dividends, including a potential special dividend funded from excess cash reserves.

As reported by Reuters, the move follows massive surges in revenue for memory-chip manufacturers fueled by surging global demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and enterprise infrastructure supporting AI servers.

Additionally the latest report comes soon after a historic announcement by domestic rival SK Hynix, which unveiled a 40 trillion won ($28.7 billion) share buyback and cancellation plan.

Following the news reports, shares for both South Korean memory giants saw sharp intraday rallies, reflecting growing investor relief that tech cash generated by the AI boom is actively flowing back to shareholders.

The South Korean memory-chip maker will hold a board meeting at the end of August to approve a shareholder return plan.
