The ruling coalition Wednesday warned “traitor” Imran Khan against attacking Islamabad and asked Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to abstain from becoming a “tool” in paving way for chaos in the country.

The statement was issued after the ruling coalition rulers held a meeting — chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif — which discussed the country’s political and economic conditions including the situation on the interior and exterior front.

During the meeting, the ruling coalition extended condolence over the deaths that occured in wake of the devastating floods and recited Fatiha for the departed souls. In addition, participants of the meeting expressed satisfaction over relief and rescue work for flood affectees in the country.

In the meeting, PM Shehbaz’s leadership skills were appreciated for his diligence and attention to helping flood victims.

The session also commended the role of federal and provincial governments including the Pakistan army and navy in helping flood victims.

According to the statement, the ruling coalition resolved that no one would be allowed to attack Islamabad by crossing the limits of the constitution and law.

“Ruling coalition along with the PDM warned the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to abstain from becoming the tool of Imran Khan in paving way for chaos in the country,” it said.

In an apparent reference to PTI Chairman Khan’s long march call towards the capital, the declaration of the meeting termed him a “traitor, conspirator and rioter” for instigating the institutions to act against the constitution.

“The one, who is inciting the institutions to act against the constitution, wants to push the country into serious crisis. Therefore, it is necessary to pull legal reins in on him as it is the constitutional demand, said the statement.

The meeting also expressed its deep concern over the audio leaks and endorsed cabinet decisions over a matter related to diplomatic cypher.

The session under the PM chair also urged Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to complete a probe immediately against those who are involved in serious crimes against the state and the national interests.

During the meeting, newly appointed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the session on the country’s economic situation and talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Dar said due to the disastrous four-year economic policies of the previous government, none of the economic indicators showed positive signs.

“The debt of Rs20,000 billion taken during the previous government’s tenure had pushed the country on the verge of default,” he added.

Speaking about depreciation in the value of the US dollar after taking charge, Dar said that the rupee had gained against the US dollar the last Monday and hoped that the value of the US dollar would come down below Rs200.

The meeting expressed its satisfaction over the measures taken by new finance minister and appreciated his performance.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz and coalition partners also decided to ensure a reduction in electricity prices.
