Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims around the world, has passed away in Lisbon, Portugal at 88.

His death was confirmed in a statement Tuesday.

“Leaders and staff of the Aga Khan Development Network offer our condolences to the family of His Highness and to the Ismaili community worldwide,” it read.

Prince Karim Aga Khan was the founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network.

“With profound sadness, the Jamat is informed that our beloved 49th hereditary Imam, Mawlana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, passed peacefully to Almighty Allah’s grace on 4 February 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family,” according to a statement released on the social media.
