LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif came under attack while he was at a café in Central London late on Saturday evening.
One man has been arrested by the police for attacking Nawaz Sharif, throwing coffee at his vehicle and for kicking and damaging the car, according to Khurram Butt who was present at the scene.
“PTI goons this evening attacked Mian Nawaz Sharif’s vehicle this evening. Nawaz Sharif is fine and unhurt. Alhamdullilah. The attacker has been arrested and he is in police custody,” Khurram Butt wrote on Twitter sharing pictures of the vehicle and a man being taken away by the police.
The identity of the man couldn’t be verified at the filing of this report. The police confirmed a man has been arrested in relation to the report of an attack but shared no further details.
According to sources, Nawaz Sharif was at the café with his two bodyguards when he was approached by a group of around 10 men who were shouting abuses and pro-PTI slogans. One of the protestors was aggressive and tried to physically attack Nawaz Sharif but he was restrained by the guards while the others were abusive but didn’t take part in the physical attack.
A spokesman for the Sharif family said the matter has been reported to the police and they are trying to determine the identity of the attacker.
