Motorway police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad on Saturday rejected reports claiming that advanced surveillance cameras and other related equipment installed along the Sukkur-Multan section in Sindh were stolen by dacoits, describing the news as “baseless”.

In a statement, the spokesperson said: “The ITS surveillance cameras installed on the motorway were removed by the relevant administration themselves.”

He added that the “One Network” administration took this step in December 2023 due to security and administrative reasons.

The reports are presenting an old matter as a recent incident, which has no connection to the truth, he added.

“There are alternative and effective arrangements for surveillance on the motorway,” the spokesperson added.

His rebuttal came following a report emerged claiming that advanced surveillance and speed cameras, along with solar panels, lights and poles installed along nearly 200 kilometres of the Sukkur-Multan motorway in Sindh, were stolen by katcha (riverine) area dacoits.
