A one-and-a-half-year-old girl died during treatment after she was allegedly sexually assaulted in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area, police said on Wednesday.
A doctor said preliminary findings indicate the child was sexually assaulted, while confirmation will depend on the medical examination report.
The police later arrested the suspect, a close relative of the child, from his home in the metropolis.
According to the police, Madadgar 15 received information about the alleged assault and officers reached the scene to gather details from the caller.
The caller told the police that the suspect had taken the one-and-a-half-year-old out for a walk.
When the child was brought back, she was in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital, where she later died during treatment.
The girl’s funeral prayer was offered before she was laid to rest in a local cemetery in Karachi.
