A delegation led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad early Saturday ahead of high-level negotiations with the United States aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, following a two-week truce brokered by Pakistan.
The high-powered delegation includes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who will participate in Islamabad talks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.
The Iranian delegation was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshall Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi upon arrival.
DPM Dar expressed the hope that parties would engage constructively and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to continue facilitating the parties towards reaching a lasting and durable solution to the conflict.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the upcoming US-Iran talks as a “make-or-break” moment in efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire, as Islamabad prepares to host high-level negotiations.
The premier said leadership from both countries would begin discussions in the capital on Saturday, marking a critical phase in attempts to stabilise the region following weeks of conflict.
