Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, has responded to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s comments about making Google “dance” with its new Bing search engine.

Nadella had said he hoped Bing would make Google “come out and show that they can dance” and that he wanted people to know that Microsoft made Google dance.

“And I want people to know that we made them dance, and I think that’ll be a great day,” Nadella said in February 2023.

“One of the ways you can do the wrong thing is by listening to noise out there and playing to someone else’s dance music,” said Pichai in an interview with Bloomberg.

Pichai’s comments indicate that Google will maintain its strategy and not be swayed by Microsoft’s moves. He also stressed that AI is still in its early stages and competition is a natural part of the tech industry.

“It’s happening at a faster pace, but you know technology changes tend to get faster over time,” Pichai said. “So it’s not surprising to me at all.”

“I think we have a clear sense of what we need to do,” Pichai added.

Despite Microsoft’s efforts, Google remains the dominant player in search, with Nadella himself acknowledging Google’s strengths.

Google has been investing in AI and has recently announced several advancements, including its own AI chips and cloud upgrades. While Microsoft has made gains with its new Bing and 365 Copilot, Google is still the leader in search and is working to maintain its position.
