Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has said that his company, Neuralink, has restored sight to blind monkeys using its brain chip technology.
“I should mention that the Blindsight implant is already working in monkeys,” Musk said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
His comments came after Neuralink shared that its patient received the company’s first implant in January, and was now able to use his brain-chip to play chess on a computer in a nine-minute livestream on X.
The goal of the company is to connect human brains to computers to help tackle complex neurological conditions.
About his goal for restoring eyesight, Musk said: “Resolution will be low at first, like early Nintendo graphics, but ultimately may exceed normal human vision.”
In an ending note, he added: “(Also, no monkey has died or been seriously injured by a Neuralink device!).”
About his surgery, Arbaugh, during the presentation, said: “The surgery was super easy.”
Revealing more to the world, the 29-year-old said thanks to Neuralink, he was able to play the video game Civilization VI for eight hours.
But at the same time, he noted that there were some issues and the tech was not perfect.
