Veteran star and television personality Bushra Ansari has ignited a conversation on societal double standards regarding age-gap relationships. In a recent social media post by Instant Bollywood discussing how “love knows no bounds,” highlighting the marriage of Indian model Milind Soman to his much younger wife, Ansari raised poignant questions about the disparity in societal perceptions.
The post, which highlighted the substantial 26-year age gap between Soman and his wife, served as a catalyst for Ansari to confront the prevailing norms. With a tone of both curiosity and amusement, Ansari queried, “It’s okay for a man?” Her rhetorical question shed light on the entrenched gender biases that often dictate societal expectations in matters of love and marriage.
In her characteristic style, Ansari punctuated her inquiry with laughter, emphasising the absurdity of such disparities. Her candid commentary underscored the need to challenge entrenched gender norms that perpetuate inequality and restrict individual agency. Recently, the star addressed age gaps and remarriage in her YouTube vlog. Sitting with husband Iqbal Hussain, the duo highlighted how society is less accepting of a woman remarrying or marrying a younger man. “There was the issue of an older woman marrying a younger man,” said Bushra. “From my own point of view, I had no plan or evident reason to get married. Obviously, when one spends many years in a marriage and exits it, one is not prepared for another trial.”
