Currently under construction, Saudi Arabia’s “Jeddah Tower” is set to take over Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa and become the newest world’s tallest building.

With a height of over 1km, the skyscraper will feature corporate offices, residences and hotels, Architectural Digest reported.

The Jeddah tower also known as the Kingdom tower, will be home to the world’s highest observatory.

A “three-petal footprint,” which forms an aerodynamic shape in homes and lowers wind load, is one of the design’s primary features.

Another noteworthy feature includes, the dynamic lift that will function within this structure at a speed of 10 metres per second.

The construction of the skyscraper began in 2013 but was put on hold in 2018 after Bakr bin Laden, the half-brother of Osama Bin Laden, and president of the contractor company, BinLaden Group, was arrested during the 2017–2019 Saudi Arabian purge. COVID-19 pandemic resulted in further delays

However, in September 2023, it was announced that the construction of the building had resumed.

The project estimated to cost $1.2 billion will be the centrepiece of a $20-billion mixed-use district called the Jeddah Economic City located on the coast of the Red Sea.
