President Joe Biden posted a one-sentence tweet after the Kansas City Chiefs’ thrilling Super Bowl victory on Sunday to mock right-wing conspiracy theorists who believe pop star Taylor Swift’s romance with Travis Kelce is a ruse to help the Democrat win reelection this year.
Biden posted an image of the “Dark Brandon” meme — a photo of the president with red lasers for eyes — on both X and Instagram along with the caption: “Just like we drew it up”.
The meme about the far-out-there conspiracy that was crafted leading up to Super Bowl LVIII.
Online commentators, primarily from the far-right, are promoting the tinfoil hat theory that the Super Bowl matchup was rigged, and Swift, who they claim is in a phoney relationship with Kelce, would endorse Biden for the White House.
In a TikTok video, the 81-year-old US president and his campaign team mocked conspiracy theorists right before the Super Bowl.
A staffer asked if the commander-in-chief was “deviously plotting” so the Chiefs could make the Super Bowl or are the Chiefs just a good team to which Biden replied: “I’d get in trouble if I tell you that” before the clip cut to the “Dark Brandon” meme again.
The creepy meme originated as a play with the right on the anti-Biden slogan “Let’s Go Brandon,” but was reclaimed by Democrats and embraced by the president’s campaign that used it to mischievously toy with the NFL-Swift conspiracists Sunday.
Swift endorsed Biden when he ran for the White House in 2020 over then-President Donald Trump. The two men are expected to face off again this year.
Swift attended her boyfriend’s thrilling 25-22 Super Bowl overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, where the couple, both 34, sealed the victory with a fairytale ending on the field.
