United States auto industry safety regulators have announced to investigate whether Tesla’s announcement in December to recall over two million vehicles is adequate or not, the Times of India reported.

This move has come following several car accidents that have occurred recently.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has raised question marks on Tesla’s installation of software updates on the recalled vehicles.

The NHTSA announced that it was “initiating an inquiry in response to concerns raised by crash incidents and results from preliminary NHTSA tests of remedied vehicles.”

According to the agency, Tesla has not upgraded any software to address issues that pose an unreasonable safety risk.

Recently, a 28-year-old motorcyclist in Washington was killed after a Tesla car in autopilot mode overran him.

As per reports, the Tesla driver had put the car on an autopilot driving system and was using his phone.

As per the Seattle Times, the driver has been arrested for “inattention to driving while in autopilot mode, and the distraction of the cell phone while moving forward. The driver trusted the machine to drive for him.”

Earlier this month, Tesla settled a wrongful death lawsuit involving an Apple engineer who veered off a highway while on the autopilot system, leading to his death.
