Apparent human remains including a jaw with teeth still attached have been discovered in a US reservoir as record-low water levels expose areas that are usually underwater, with an ongoing drought causing water levels to fall across western states.

The discovery has fueled an investigation as authorities work to establish identity and how they ended up there.

According to US National Park, reports of mortal remains were found at Boulder Beach on Lake Mead, Nevada on August 16.

This incident is currently under investigation, and no further information is available at this time. A woman and her friend spotted the bones while visiting the Nevada side of the reservoir.

In this connection, Dianelis Molina Cruz told CBS: “My friend was playing with the rocks in the lake and then he grabbed the jaw. And when he looked, he saw the teeth and everything.”

Noel De Leon suggested that the environmental drought at Lake Mead contributed to the recovery of potential human remains.

The US Bureau of Reclamation underlined that water levels at the reservoir dropped to 1,040ft above sea level.

The reservoir is in Clark County, which is experiencing mild aridity, according to reports by the US Drought Monitor. Scientists explained that droughts have been declining in recent years and are a major reason for climate change.

Furthermore, low water levels at a reservoir in the UK have unearthed the remains of the village of Nether Hambleton which provides a striking example of the massive flooding of the land.
