Author says AI adaptations of her novels are illegal and warns creators of copyright action and legal consequences
Novelist Nemrah Ahmad has criticised the growing number of AI-generated videos based on her bestselling novel Jannat Kay Pattay, describing the practice as “extremely illegal” and unethical.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Ahmad warned YouTube channels and Instagram pages creating AI adaptations of her novels without permission that they would face copyright complaints and possible legal action.
“PSA: All the YouTube channels/Instagram pages making AI videos on my novels, especially Jannat Kay Pattay, need to delete those because one by one we are going to report them for copyright violations,” she wrote.
Ahmad said copyright complaints could result in social media accounts being removed and warned that those responsible could be identified through legal channels.
“Not only will your channel/Insta be taken down, you will also be traced legally through Meta. You cannot hide behind keyboards because Meta has a responsibility when it comes to such copyright violations, and they are supposed to provide details about YOU to the government that requests it,” she added.

The author stressed that she had never authorised visual adaptations of her novels. “You have no right to make video content on my novels. I never gave my novels to TV productions. Doing this with AI is not only illegal, unethical but extremely cheap.”
She also urged readers to report any AI-generated videos based on her work.
The videos circulating on social media typically use generative AI to recreate scenes, characters and settings from Jannat Kay Pattay, presenting animated interpretations of the novel without the author’s involvement or permission.
Ahmad is one of Pakistan’s best-known contemporary novelists, with works including Jannat Kay Pattay, Namal and Mus’haf. Her fiction is widely recognised for blending suspense, mystery, romance and Islamic themes.
Her warning comes amid growing concerns within the publishing industry over the unauthorised use of generative AI to reproduce creative works, as authors and artists increasingly seek stronger protections for their intellectual property.
