Why Boeing is asking the US to intervene over record EU loan to Airbus

Boeing has reportedly submitted a formal letter to the US government requesting intervention and transparency over a package of €3 billion in loans to Airbus, emphasizing commercial disputes days after both sides prolonged a ceasefire over jet subsidies.

The letter sent to y US Representative Jamieson Greer, said Boeing had been already surprised by a June 29 announcement from European Investment Bank after the EU supported the ceasefire extension.

Keeping in view the ongoing scenario, the UTSR seeks an exhausting breakdown from the EU and to further explain why it was reconcilable with the 2021 truce agreement, defining what constitutes open and transparent pricing.

In response, the EIB said it finances the company by supplying necessary financial resources every year and denied providing Airbus with any non-market support.

A spokesperson said: “This is a normal loan, carrying interest as part of the EIB’s overall financing activity.”

The core insight is that this dispute resurfaces trade tensions between the US and EU following the extension of the 2021 truce on jet subsidies.

At present, the situation hinges on new evidence whether the US Trade Representative will officially push the EU for a full accounting of the loans and whether those terms are compliant and aligned with the 2021 market-rate key principles.
