TV host says women continue to face hate comments, body shaming and character attacks on social media

TV host Fiza Ali has spoken out about the growing problem of online harassment, urging parents to educate their children about digital safety and stressing that awareness, not silence, is key to tackling abuse on social media.

In a video shared on Instagram, she highlighted the risks associated with online platforms and questioned how parents can better protect young people from harassment in the digital space.

“Social media has become increasingly dangerous. How can we protect our kids from online harassment?” she asked. Fiza argued that simply making social media accounts private is not enough to address the issue.

“In today’s world, making your account private is not enough; awareness is important,” she said. “People leave extremely inappropriate hate comments, even when the content is positive. They feel compelled to respond negatively.”

Expanding on her message in the post’s caption, Fiza said social media should serve as a platform where people can express themselves freely, yet many users continue to face abuse and intimidation online.

“Social media is an open platform for us to use our voices, yet people still find ways to silence and harass others,” she wrote.

The host pointed out that women, content creators and public figures are frequently targeted by online abuse, including offensive language, character assassination, body shaming and inappropriate comments.

“Almost every girl, woman creator, or public figure faces some form of online abuse,” she said.

Fiza stressed that such behaviour should not be dismissed as freedom of expression. “This is not freedom of speech; it is harassment,” she wrote, urging parents to take the issue seriously if they want to create a safer future for their children.

Many social media users echoed her concerns in the comments section, with some arguing that children should be equipped with confidence and awareness rather than fear when navigating online spaces.

Concluding her message, Fiza underscored the importance of fostering a culture of respect online and encouraging victims to speak up.

“Respect online is just as important as respect in person. I am sharing this message for girls who are afraid of using social media because of this. Silence is not the solution. Awareness is,” she said.
