KARACHI: A gas leak caused an explosion in a residential flat near Hyderi in North Nazimabad early Saturday, sparking a fire on the 10th floor of the building, officials said.
The fire brigade said the blast was caused by gas leakage inside the flat. Police confirmed that the explosion took place on the 10th floor.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene and were busy putting out the fire. A snorkel vehicle was also called to help with the operation.
Rescue sources said a woman and a young girl were injured in what appeared to be a cylinder explosion. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
Sindh’s Inspector General of Police directed officers to reach the scene immediately and ordered the SSP Central to oversee the rescue efforts. Authorities were also told to ensure the safe evacuation of residents from the building.
