Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will host the next Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit to be held in 2027 and ordered to immediately begin preparations for the key summit.
The announcement was made after PM Shehbaz laid the foundation stone of Islamabad’s T-Chowk flyover on Friday.
The premier said Islamabad would be made more beautiful ahead of the summit and noted that Tajikistan had gifted Pakistan a variety of plants.
Work was already underway to further beautify Constitution Avenue, where colourful flowers would be visible within weeks, he added.
PM Shehbaz added that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi were working on new travel projects for Rawalpindi and Islamabad, including a proposed rail car project aimed at providing greater convenience to residents of the twin cities.
He highlighted that the federal government would extend all possible support to ensure smooth travel facilities.
The prime minister further said that eco-friendly electric transport had been introduced for environmental protection, while several other projects under the interior minister’s supervision were also in progress.
This is a developing story and is being updated with more details.
