The authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of all schools in Karachi today, a decision taken in view of the unrelenting spell of rain that has been soaking numerous neighbourhoods across the metropolis since the previous day.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors for their own safety, as various areas and roads were inundated following the overflow of Lyari and Malir rivers and Thado stream.
The announcement was made in the early hours of Wednesday, following steady downpours across several parts of the city on Tuesday that persisted well into the night.
In a related development, the administration of Dow University Hospital confirmed that all examinations scheduled for today have been postponed, assuring students that the revised dates would be announced at a later stage once the weather situation improves.
