Former MLB pitcher John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, were involved in a physical altercation on Bourbon Street ahead of Super Bowl 59.
A video circulating on social media Tuesday shows Rocker approaching Mahomes Sr., seemingly attempting to start a conversation before Mahomes Sr. pulled away and began yelling.
The situation quickly escalated before the two were separated.
Rocker later addressed the incident on social media, posting: “This [expletive] loser can’t take a damn joke. Wish I laid him out right there and ruined his [expletive] weekend even more.”
The exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear, but Rocker had posted several tweets criticizing Mahomes Jr. in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.
On Jan. 27, he tweeted: “Patrick Mahomes [expletive] sucks,” followed by other derogatory remarks, including a suggestive comment about Mahomes and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Speculation has also arisen that the altercation may have been staged to promote an exhibition boxing match between the two at Barstool Sports’ “Rough N’ Rowdy” event.
While Barstool founder Dave Portnoy confirmed last week that a fight is planned, contracts have yet to be finalized.
Regardless of the circumstances, the viral footage and ongoing social media exchanges between Rocker and Mahomes Sr. have only fueled public interest in their feud.
