ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved the Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance.
The Ministry of Law had sent the ordinance to the prime minister and federal cabinet Thursday night.
The ordinance said the court bench would look at the cases keeping in view the fundamental human rights and public importance.
As per the ordinance, each case will be heard on its turn otherwise reason will be furnished for its taking out of turn.
“Each case and appeal will be recorded and its transcript will be prepared, which will be available to the public,” it also stated.
According to sources, through this ordinance, the power of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to appoint cases will be increased.
In the absence of a committee member, the CJP will be able to nominate a judge as a member of the committee, The News reported.
A three-member committee constitutes the benches under the Practice and Procedure Act.
This is a developing story and is being updated with more details.
