Former military leader General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, who had been living in Dubai since 2016, breathed his last on Sunday at the age of 79. Several celebrities have taken to their social media accounts to mourn the former president and army chief’s demise and offered their condolences to his family.

Taking to Twitter, actor Sanam Saeed shared a photograph of the deceased alongside a heartfelt caption to relay her sentiments. “You will always be spoken of highly and remembered for the golden years of Pakistan,” penned the Cake star.

Model-cum-actor Mawra Hocane also recalled the time she met Musharraf by sharing a photo on the micro-blogging site. “I first met you when I was eight. You were always kind. May you rest in eternal peace sir, praying for you,” she wrote.

As word of Musharraf’s death spread online, more public figures expressed their grief online. “I am deeply saddened to know about the demise of former president Pervez Musharraf, one of the greatest leaders; he was brave, far-sighted and liberal! All the people in my industry had great opportunities during his tenure. He was all for arts and culture! May his soul rest in peace,” said filmmaker Nabeel Qureshi.

Veteran Adnan Siddiqui also posted a photo of the retired General with many praises. “A valiant soldier, gallant officer, a great leader and a true patriot. General Pervez Musharraf had as many detractors as admirers. The departed deserves respect on his final journey. May Allah grant him a higher place in Jannah. Ameen,” said the Mom actor.

“Deeply saddened to learn about Pervez Musharraf’s passing. My deepest condolences to his family. May Allah bless his soul,” penned down Humayun Saeed.

Musicians Farhan Saeed and Momina Mustehsan also sent their prayers to the deceased individual. “Rest in peace, Pervez Musharraf. May Allah be very generous with you and bless your soul. Amen,” wrote Saeed, while the Afreen Afreen crooner stated, “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”

 

Cricketers Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik were also among the sympathisers. “Sharing my deepest condolences with the family of our former President Pervez Musharraf. May his soul rest in peace,” shared the batsman on Twitter, while Malik mourned Musharraf’s loss. He said, “Just came to know about General Pervez Musharraf passing away. I send my condolences to his family and many prayers for Pervez Musharraf’s soul. Pakistan has lost one of the finest leaders ever.”

Numerous celebrities also posted Instagram Stories about the demise of the former army chief. Shahroz Subzwari, Junaid Khan, Rabia Butt, Atiqa Odho, Natasha Baig, Ahmed Ali Butt, Sami Khan, Hira Mani, Sana Javed, Yasir Hussain, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Saboor Aly, and many others were included in among the consolers.
