An Indian naval flotilla, equipped with supersonic cruise missiles, is moving towards Pakistan days after New Delhi launched an unprovoked missile strike against cities in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), reported British media on Friday.
“New Delhi has moved its western fleet closer to the northern Arabian Sea, placing it within striking range of Karachi, Pakistan’s largest port,” said the media report.
The Indian strike group reportedly comprises an aircraft carrier, destroyers, frigates and other assets and is roughly 300-400 miles from Pakistan’s coast.
The foreign media outlet added that some of the vessels are carrying “partly Russian-developed BrahMos missile, which carries a 300kg warhead and are capable of travelling at speeds of up to Mach 3 to strike targets up to 500 miles away”.
The media outlet quoted analysts as saying that if the Indian Navy strikes Karachi, it could have “catastrophic consequences for Pakistan, as the port handles 60% of the country’s trade, as well as its naval headquarters”.
