The government Sunday raised the prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight as a step to prevent hoarding and artificial shortage amid rising international prices and currency fluctuations.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar, in a televised address, announced a Rs35 per litre increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.

The price of kerosene and light diesel oil inched up by Rs18 per litre. Following the increase the new prices, which came into effect on January 29 (11am):

  • Petrol — Rs249.80 per litre
  • High-speed diesel —Rs262.80 per litre
  • Kerosene oil — Rs 189.83 per litre

Dar shared that OGRA had requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the government to implement the new rates on an immediate basis to prevent the temporary hoarding and the speculations about the shortage of petrol.
